Announcements

It is with great sadness that we inform our members of the untimely and sudden death of Jordan Wright, publisher of the Pacific Arts Association Journal.  Beginning in 2006, Jordan revived our publication and with his staff helped us produce seven issues. His enthusiasm and commitment to the Pacific Arts Association was intertwined with his love for the arts and cultures of Oceania.  We deeply mourn his passing and send our condolences to his family.

Taualuga; the last dance

The solo performance entitled Taualuga; the last dance was first performed at the 4th AsiaPacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in 2002 with the Pasifika Divas performance art collective. Since then Shigeyuki Kihara has developed the Taualuga further by exploring indigenous Samoan belief systems while silmutaneously commenting on New Zealand's history and presence in the South Pacific region.

L'art ancestral des Iles Marquises: Te haa tupuna kakiu no te henua enana

There are almost 300 pieces on view from French museums and institutions as well as from Tahiti & Neuchatel and of course a large group of art works from private collections. Many of these pieces are being shown in public for the first time. A group of early illustrations by Max Radiguet (artist on the Dupetit-Thouars expedition) and Ernest Goupil (the artist for the Dumont d'Urville expedition) are included in the show. A catalogue is being published with over 225 illustrations.

Samoa Contemporary

'I AM' an exhibition by Artist Delicia Sampero

Sampero's ambitious project brings an entire community together in one place.
