Letter to CAA's Affiliated Societies from the CAA President

May 14, 2010

Dear Colleagues at CAA’s Affiliated Societies,

Having just assumed the office of the presidency of CAA on May 1, one of the first things on my mind is to continue the exciting dialogue that we began at our first meeting of CAA Affiliated Societies at our recent annual conference held in Chicago. Linda Downs kept notes of who attended (over 30 Affiliated Societies were represented out of 69) and the ideas you shared for further developing the relationships between affiliates and CAA.  We want your suggestions to become the basis for our future collaboration. The reach of any one of our associations can be multiplied many times over by working together. The possibilities seem unlimited!

This year, we will be in an exploratory mode to learn more so that we might establish some parameters of greatest common interest to all and determine the best way for us to convene, to exchange, deliberate, and partner together. To that end, I am delighted to report that Jean Miller of the University of North Texas, a member of CAA's board of directors, has graciously volunteered to start a more personal dialogue with you, our affiliate members. She will be calling a few presidents and chairs, writing to others, and she invites you to contact her with your suggestions.  Her email address is jean.miller@unt.edu. You may also call her at 940-565-4028.  I have asked Jean to report back to our Board of Directors at our October 2010 meeting to determine next steps.

Thank you for being a part of what makes the intellectual and creative exchange at CAA so dynamic and ever-evolving as we approach our centennial year.  We look forward to continuing to shape the future of the visual arts professions with your vital participation!

Most sincerely,

Barbara Nesin, M.F.A.
