Northern Exposure: Crossing the Gap at The Depot Artspace

Northern Exposure: Crossing the Gap
An Exhibition of Northland Artists
October 24 - November 5, 2009
Opening reception, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2009
The Depot Artspace, Main Gallery, Devonport, 28 Clarence Street, Auckland, New Zealand

We are Theresa Gordon, Te Rangitu Netana, Claire Nicholls, Israe Paraone, Mandy Sunlight and Akke Tiemersma, six artists from Te Tai Tokerau/Northland. Together we are bringing our work which includes painting, raranga (flax weaving), sculpture and Ta Moko (tattoo) to The Depot.

We came together to work our way through a professional development programme invented by Mary Britton and the Arts Promotion Trust (Northland) to engage with our sustainability as artists. Money is a factor, but we have discovered that there is more to it than that. Each at our different places along the continuum to a sustainable professional arts practice we have learned from each other, from our mentors and peers and from the very processes which enable us to produce the work we make. Maureen Lander will open our exhibition.
