Open Call for Articles, Research Notes, Creative Work, & Reviews

Pacific Arts has an ONGOING OPEN CALL for submissions on the arts of Oceania and its diasporas focusing on visual arts, material cultures, and heritage arts. The journal’s scope is temporally broad, highlighting both historical and current topics while engaging with a wide range of creative mediums, forms, and subject matter. We publish scholarly articles, research-driven creative work, brief research notes, and reviews. Pacific Arts encourages interdisciplinary explorations of the political, social, economic, cultural, aesthetic, and environmental stakes in the production and study of Indigenous visual and material cultures in Oceania, past and present.

For articles, creative work, and research notes, please send an abstract to pacificarts@ucsc.edu by July 21, 2025*. If accepted, we will ask for full-length submissions by August 31, 2025. Contributions should follow the Pacific Arts style guide and include a metadata form. Pacific Arts is a peer reviewed, open access online journal published by the University of California/eScholarship and encourages broad participation and circulation.

Pacific Arts is also accepting reviews of books, media, events, and exhibitions that relate to visual and material cultures of Oceania. Please email pacificarts@ucsc.edu by July 21, 2025 if you are interested in writing a review for an upcoming volume of Pacific Arts. Authors, artists, curators, and publishers interested in having their work reviewed and anyone interested in writing a review should contact pacificarts@ucsc.edu.

Lastly, each volume of Pacific Arts includes announcements related to the field of Pacific visual studies. This can be (but aren’t limited to) new publications, employment opportunities, conferences, current events, exhibitions, fellowships, and more. If you would like to include an announcement in the next volume, please email the title, text, and one image to pacificarts@ucsc.edu.

*The deadlines posted above are target deadlines for the forthcoming journal issue. We welcome submissions after July 21; these might be considered for the forthcoming issue, but will certainly be considered for a future issue.
